I love watching the films as well but it isn’t everyday one gets to have a firsthand account of the filmmaker’s thoughts while shooting certain scenes or the reason one scene was chosen instead of another. My least favorite would have to be the seats. They are not particularly comfortable but other than that I think the whole experience is amazing and I cannot wait until next year’s festival. My advice is to see as many films as you can but more than that just be downtown, because you never know who you’ll bump into. Those running the festival do a great job, I can’t imagine the amount of pressure they are under come November every year so my advice to them is relax, have fun because you’ve created a fantastic festival.<br /> Cucalorus is one of the neatest things about Wilmington. It brings our downtown even more to life than it already is and has become such a treat for the people in this town.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' type='text'>Cucalorus

i absolutely love cucalorus and ive been to several screenings every year since moving to wilmington but this year i will miss every day of the festival but wednesday. my cousin is getting married and i am one of the bridesmaides so i will be in high point untill sunday evening. im super pumped for the wedding though so it makes missing this years festival not bad but next year ill definitely be there. sunday night is dancealorus so hopefully i can get a ticket for that...ive never been to that but i hear its awesome so that will be fun. on wednesday night the short film "Future Islands-The Happiness of Being Twice" sounds interesting so i want to go to that during the shorts block at the soapbox...."psychedelic collage of fantastic color" caught my eye when i was reading what the films were about so im going to have to see what all thats about for sure. if i get back in time sunday im going to try and see "Port City" since some friends of mine are either in it or worked on it<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' type='text'>Music Video Shoot

the film shoot for our music video was great, my group worked really well together which made it much easier. will was nice enough to let us do our video on him...we went for a nature/electronic kind of thing. it was basically just him with his turn tables in the middle of different areas surrounded by nature. some spaces were filled with trees some where just wide open spaces...one of my favorite scenes is when the camera just follows the cord and it turns out its plugged into the tree. being the producer of the video, i had to get in contact with the parks and recreation lady for wilmington to get permits since we shot at wallace park. it was actually a good experience having to contact them and hopefully i formed a good relationship with them so they will be generous about permits in the future. there was also some really neat shots of will just laying in the empty field with one of his turntables just sitting beside him...em and sheledy had great ideas on how to get cool shots and where to put the camera while darion and i walked around the park and found places to shoot...they're a great group and i think our final product will be awesome<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' type='text'>Installation

i had no clue what to do an installation on. this is the first time i have ever even seen an installation project let alone try and do one. the bill viola pieces we saw in class were amazing...i think what he does with the water falling from the sky in unbelievable. sometimes i feel like i would never come up with something like that but the more i think about, and after seeing a real installation piece, some ideas stared to form but then it ended up being almost like one of the examples we saw in class. i thought it would be kind of cool to have a piece of paper on the wall and project random lines at different times that someone would draw on the paper almost like tracing the projected lines and since its at random you wont know what is being drawn but when its finished there will be a picture of something on the paper. i dont know if that makes sense at all the way im saying it but i didnt have it formulated enough to say it in class anyway so maybe someday it will be seen but not now. im actually looking forward to working with abz again on his idea<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' type='text'>Art House Reading

i thought the art house reading was actually pretty interesting. i think its great how art cinema is pushing into theaters around the world and all kinds of people are getting exposed to it...with more and more people being exposed to it, more and more people become interested which is expanding the art form as a whole. only thing is that with the expansion it does push out the rather risky films for the more "friendly" ones in some places. i didn't know that was even going on but it definitely makes sense now....i had no clue Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" was considered an independent movie either. the reading calls the term art house "slippery" and i see why... if a movie is non conventional its called art house. yay. just because its controversial doesn't mean its an art house film. i think microcinemas are fantastic...i wish there were more of them so everyone who thinks art films are "weird" could be exposed to their beauty. these mircocinemas allow those of us not in new york or los angeles to enjoy the non mainstream films which is great....i wish i could pay for my movie tickets with a basket of day old bread and muffins<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' ourself...darion is amazing at final cut and i learned so much i didnt know before, so we were really able to make some cool edits. the plan was to create a party scene...just wild crazy fun and we used the two images of people to be the party goers.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' soundscape. i couldnt deciede if it should tell a story or make music or just flow like a poem....chelise really helped me learn how to edit sound and we figured out a cool way to use a bunch of different sounds. i learned not only how to use sound in final cut but i learned a new way of looking a random sounds. or rather a new way of hearing....i play a lot of intruments so im always hearing peaking through the branches....it was warm on my skin. as it kept rising, it began to hit my grill causing that blinding light to go right into my eyes. there is a colorful pot with a plant in it...i need to water it....the sun is making the orange red and yellow really stand out against the now brown leaves. the shadows on my fence are amazing....they look like an actual tree is painted the wood. since my dog is a yellow lab, when the sun hits her coat as she plays in the yard it really shines and makes her markings very visable. its like there is dew on the arm of a chair on the deck...the light in only on one arm but its making the water drops super shiny<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' about the place to comment on its population but this picture astounds me. i came across it accidentally and was trying to figure out how i could relate it to the look of truth....i got out of it yes there are a shit load of people in that pool but looking at the differnt colors, shapes and sizes of the floats, i kind of related it to people in general. not everyone has a float but there are no 2 floats the same....maybe similar colors but the designs are different. just like people....we are all different too but like all these different floats in that wave pool, we are all bunched together to. i dont see a huge brawl of people in the middle of the pool which is pretty inspiring to me.....there is peace amongst the crazy<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' My dog is snoring beside me on the couch, literally sounds like my dad snoring, she is dreaming and keeps kicking her leg making a scratching noise on a pillow. It reminds me of scratching nails on the inner lining of the roof in a car…I don’t know why but it drives me crazy. There are a million bugs outside my window...some of them are running into the glass trying to get to the light, I want to yell “the light is on the inside dumbass!” either a large frog or a freaking goat is outside the fence in my backyard. It’s a super weird noise and sounds like its getting closer. I believe one of my roommates just started walking around, the floor is creaking upstairs. I am freaking myself out now with creaking staircases…I watch to many haunting shows on the discovery channel, to top things off the sink just started dripping<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7109071813017080976-2158859722277620203?l=ohawley-hawleywood.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Beach Sound Observation

On Sunday I went to the beach with a bunch of girls so of course we were laughing most of the time but for about 5 minutes I did just lay in the sand and listen. I never really noticed how loud the ocean is when you really listening. It’s beautiful…way better than those fake noise makers that try and recreate the waves. a group near us was throwing crackers at the seagulls…”ah yes, give it a chip, it will go away” I wanted to smack the shit out of them. So then the girl started screaming because they wouldn’t go away so she smacks her boyfriend, that made me bust out laughing which turned my friends attention over there and we all started laughing. Silence again…well not so much my friend anna is eating pretzels so I hear the soft crunch of them then notice my own empty stomach and right before it growls I grab her bag making a weird plastic rubbing together sound (not sure what you would call that) and eat some. Im typing these sounds into my phone so I can hear the keys of my blackberry being punched but not the l because sand had gotten into it and its not working. Yay for electronics on the beach….there are at least 3 different conversations going on, I hear the loud “me too!” or “oh yea!” but when its at a normal tone its like im in a foreign country and just hear voices.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' tilted sideways since i dont know how to make the article go up and down. im sure i looked rediculous but anyway what i got out of the reading was interesting...i like how richter explains certain avant-garde films. i agree with him, films like un chien andaluo and ballet macanique wouldnt feel right in any other form. ive recently gotten into documentarys so ive started to see how much influence that style of filmmaking has on other types but i have to disagree when he says that doc's and experimental films are the only two original art forms. in a way yes, documentarys are reality and experimental films aren't based on anything other than the artists ideas but some classical narratives i feel are art too..not every film is based on a book or a painting<div type='text'>Avant-Garde Film

i have to admit the first time i saw one of these films my reaction was obviously a chiche....i kind of hung my mouth open and was weirded out just like Macdonald said, but then after i thought about it, i realized how cool it was. the next film i saw i was only a tad weirded out (the eye ball scene in Dali's Un Chien andalou) and actually really started to like it. but he makes a good point, i wonder what my reaction would be if i had never seen a main stream hollywood movie before? i've never really thought about it that way untill now and i am guessing i would treat an avant-garde film like i treat the movie anchorman.<br /><br />i didnt know how much the lumiere brothers influenced avant-garde cinema...i guess i never thought of their films as being rebellious so that was actually very interesting to read.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' haha so bear with me.... i grew up in high point where there is not much more to do than eat and, you guessed it-watch movies. i guess i have to be pretty thankful for that considering it lead me to be where i am today. watching tons of movies growing up played a huge part in figuring out what i wanted to do at an early age. i remember watching the seasame street christmas movie hundreds of times, no literally hundreds of times during the holidays, actually no, it was year round. when i got a little older and realized how entertained i was by a huge yellow bird and green creature that lives in a garbage can, i decided that i wanted to make movies that gave people that same level of amusement. so here i am! ok i dont just lay around and watch movies...i lay on the beach now. and when im not being lazy, i surf, play my guitar, have rock concerts in my shower and laugh uncontrollably...and i have developed a shopping problem over the years as well to go along with my port city java addiction. my dog holly, yes her name is holly hawley but i think of it as just holly like madonna or bono, is always with me...usually dragging me along the loop so dont laugh at me if you ever see us. traveling is one of my favorite things to do also. im going broke becuase of my love for new york city....at least there is a good film culture there</div><br /><div><a
